Tap water after the flood was checked in the laboratory of the NCE in the Akmola region
Водопроводную воду после паводка проверили в лаборатории НЦЭ по Акмолинской области 28.04.2022

Akmola region, like a number of other regions of Kazakhstan, is prone to spring floods.

Every year, snow melting leads not only to flooding, but also poses a great danger of micro-organisms and chemicals getting into drinking water with melt water. The use of such water can lead to the development of diseases such as cholera, dysentery, viral hepatitis and other diseases. The causative agents of such intestinal infections can persist in water for a long time, thereby turning it into a source of transmission of infectious diseases.

In order to ensure the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the population during the flood period, regular monitoring of the quality of tap water is carried out in the Akmola region, in accordance with the decision of the chief sanitary doctor of the region No. 11 dated February 17, 2022.

The branch of the RSE on REM "National Center of Expertise" in Akmola region examined - 152 samples, of which 22 samples did not correspond to bacteriological indicators, the proportion of non-compliance was 14.5%, 203 samples of water were examined for sanitary and chemical indicators, of which 30 samples are above the maximum allowable concentration, which is 14.7% of the specific gravity.

The largest percentage of discrepancy falls on the Korgalzhinsky district, where common coliform bacteria, total microbial count, turbidity and color were detected.

Specialists of the NCE branch in the Akmola region note that in order to ensure the safety of drinking water, it is necessary to carry out preventive cleaning and disinfection, to keep the surrounding area clean. It is worth considering that household filters improve the taste of tap drinking water and get rid of mineral compounds. However, if the water has bacterial contamination, then household filters will not help. Therefore, during the flood period, it is recommended to use only boiled or bottled water.
