The National Center of Expertise revealed an excess of pollutants in the air of Almaty
Национальный центр экспертизы выявил превышение загрязнителей в воздухе Алматы 22.10.2019

Every year, once a quarter, the branch of the RSE at the RPE “National Center of Expertise” of the KKBTU Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the city of Almaty, in accordance with the annual plan, conducts laboratory monitoring of the condition of the city’s air basin along the main streets.

During the first half of 2019, the Almaty branch conducted 1,576 atmospheric air studies, of which discrepancies were found in 431 samples.

During the study, the content of nitrogen dioxide, according to sanitary standards for atmospheric air, exceeded the maximum permissible concentration by 2.2 times, sulfur dioxide by 1.2 and carbon monoxide by 1.4 times. These pollutants mainly determine the environmental risk of air pollution and negatively affect human health.

The presence of carbon monoxide in the atmospheric air cannot be felt by humans by smell or color. It is capable of creating oxygen deficiency in body tissues, which can cause headaches, dizziness, nausea, and loss of consciousness. The presence of nitrogen dioxide in the air, when interacting with carbon dioxide from exhaust gases, contributes to the formation of photochemical fog - smog. Nitrogen dioxide is a yellowish-brown gas that greatly impairs visibility, gives a brown tint to the air, is highly toxic, causes bronchitis, and reduces the body's resistance to respiratory diseases.

NCE specialists note that the main causes of air pollution in the city are emissions of pollutants from motor vehicles and outdated technologies in many industries.
